Unique Games Of Indonesia : a piece of wood that brings happiness " ENTHIK"
Enthik or gatrik is a famous traditional game on Java. In some areas,
this game has various names. Some find it patil lele , but in my area, also in
Banyuwangi and its surroundings, this game is called Enthik .
Enthik or Pathil Lele, boys and girls in a Javanese community born
before the 1970s, are certainly familiar with a game called enthik. They will
certainly remember the type of game equipment and how to play it. Indeed, this
one game is also one type of traditional game that is often played by boys and
girls in the past. Maybe for children born in 2000 and above, especially in
urban circles, this game is no longer known, because it is not the era anymore.
70 years ago, this traditional game was already known by the Javanese. Evidently, the term game has been recorded in the Baoesastra (Dictionary) of Java by W.J.S. Poerwadarminta was published in 1939 at Weltevreden Batavia (Jakarta). On page 41 column 1 mentioned that the meaning of enthik, one of which is the name of the game.
In his time, it was a popular and loved game. In addition to entertaining, this game can be said to require no fees. Only twigs are needed which are then cut into 2 parts. One part is a short stick that is approximately (±) 10 cm long, while the other part is called a long stick that is 3 times the size of a short stick.
Enthik can be played by at least 2 people. However, it is often played in groups or teams. The division of group members or squads, determined by the jump or suit (Java; sut or to determine a losing victory for players, usually the losers are the second group and the winner is group 1). Winners will gather in one team with other winners, and vice versa. The winning team has the opportunity to play first, while the losing team must maintain. To play enthik, "uwok" is needed, which is a kind of horizontal slope made by punching a hole in the ground. The length and width of "uwok" is usually adjusted to the size of the short stick, while the depth can vary according to the wishes of the players. "Uwok" is what later became the foundation in playing this game.
The hole is the name "uwok"
There are three sessions in the Enthik game, namely "nuju", "Nangan" and "Thokdher" which are:
1. Nuju
In the destination stage, the player team places a short stick across the top of the Uwok. Then the short stick was launched using a long stick. At that moment, the guard team arranged the formation to try to catch the short stick launched by the player. If a short stick is captured, the guard team will get points. If not, the player will place a long stick above 'uwok' transversely.
At this time, the long stick serves as the target of a short stick shoot that one of the guard squads throws. If the right throw hits the target, the player is automatically considered to be dead and must stop the game, then the opportunity to play moves to his teammates. If not, then the game will continue to the next stage.
2. Nangan,
The name "nangan" is possible because at this stage, the player is required to play both sticks in his hand, because points are calculated from the distance of throwing a small stick until uwok. At this stage, the player places a short stick on a long stick and holds it with one hand, similar to the shape of a sword. With one hand, the player will throw a short stick a little to be hit with a long stick. The number of blows the player determines the number of points he will get.
If the player only does one hit, the distance is calculated with a long stick. If you hit 2 times, the distance is calculated using a short stick. If you hit 3 times, the distance is calculated by half the length of the short stick, if four times, the distance is calculated as 1/3 of the length of the short stick, and so on.
The number of blows not only determines the points for the players, but also for the guards. When catching a short stick from one hit, the guard team will get 10 points, 2 punches means 20 points, and so on. At this stage, there is no chance for the guard to knock out the player, except by catching a short stick. If not caught, the player will count points and continue the game to the next stage.

3. Thokdher
On the "thokdher" stick, a short stick is placed in harmony with the sliding hole in a tilted position. One of the lower end of the slope, while the other end is outside. The tip that is outside will be hit with a long stick, so the small stick will air.
When turned on, the
player will hit the small stick that airs. Just like before, counting points is
determined by distance and number of blows. To what extent the small stick is thrown, determine the
distance that must be counted in multiples such as "nangan".
However, the
number of new blows is counted when the small stick is on the air, not the
first blow when in the slide. Players will be announced to fall when they fail
to hit the small stick that airs. Likewise when the punch is carried by the
guards. If not, the player will get points according to the distance calculated
by the number of blows he did.
There is no special duration for each session. The more astute someone
plays the stick, the longer the duration of the game. Vice versa, the more
astute the guards to shoot and catch short sticks, the sooner he ended his role
as a guard then changed roles as a player. That's about the picture of
traditional games that I remember. All of that is just a picture of the past,
when it was still popular and loved. The period where the world was not yet
full of technology. Whereas now, it has been dying, as well as other
traditional partnerships. And because of that I want to restore old memories in
this modern era that will surely make you all readers will automatically recall
the game, this includes myself. And that's why my blog I call the "unique
games of Indonesia".
In this technological era, there are not many or even no interest. Now, children prefer to play technology-based, whether gadged, video games, play stations, or others. Even if there are still playing games or other traditional games, that might only happen in a small part of the rural area. Even then with very little amount.
In fact,
if we want to reflect, there are many things and benefits that can be obtained
from traditional games such as enthik. Almost all traditional games are done in
groups. This means that traditional games hold a number of cultural values
such as mutual cooperation, cooperation, and sportsmanship in playing. It is
very different from gadged which unwittingly directs children to
individualistic attitudes.
Events like this are certainly not only because of the scouring of modernity, but also because of a lack of awareness of the importance of traditional games as cultural heritage. As great as any modernity attack, it will not affect the nation that has pride and its own culture. Modernity is only able to undermine the nation that does not hold the cultural values and inheritance that it has.
So for housewives or parents how do you respond
to this? .
Actually I also feel sad and miss the past,
where we always play with friends, laugh together and play together no matter
they are boys or girls it would be nice if playing together there is no
cellphone that makes us busy ourselves. I hope all children from the village
and the city do not forget the fun traditional Indonesian games.
